Oaksterdam, A Diverse Community of Businesses
Oaksterdam is a downtown Oakland, California community that is focusing on a sane, safe implementation of California’s legal medicinal cannabis legislation. As with many communities in California, Oakland has business that have taken advantage of the legalization or decriminalization of cannabis. The City of Oakland has implemented a different approach to regulate cannabisy dispensaries. Oaksterdam is now considered a business and cultural district that is cannabis tolerant in the spirit of California and City of Oakland cannabis legislation. Oaksterdam has a mix of retail restaurants, clubs, cafes, civic and governmental organizations as well as other businesses you would find in any other community, mixed with cannabis related enterprises.

The district of “Oaksterdam” was named by Jim McClelland, a founding member of the Oakland Cannabis Buyers Club and the Berkeley Patients Group. It is a melding of “Oakland” and “Amsterdamn”, you can do the math!

The district is home to all types of businesses, but there is a growing focus on those that support the legalized medical cannabis industry, including hydroponic businesses, restaurants, gift shops and your typical community businesses. It is also becoming a favoirte East Bay tourist destination.
